World Cup and Hogwarts

A great deal has happened in the past few weeks. Team USA won their Group after a stunning last-gasp goal by Landon Donovan. Edinburgh processed my financial aid. Team USA left the WC after losing to Ghana 1-2 in Extra Time. I received my “Accommodation Allocation” from Edinburgh for the most awesome housing in the city. So in sum: Landon Donovan became my hero and also I get to live in Hogwarts* come Sept 10.

Team USA may not have made it to the Final Match, but at least I get to live in a castle, virtually. Some of the same studs who brought us to the Round of 16, namely Donovan, little Bradley, Dempsey, Bocanegra, Cherundolo, and of course Tim Howard will hopefully have the opportunity to take us all the way in 2014! I will be opening a savings account for Brazil 2014, no matter how silly my bank may think I am.

Until then, I’ll be biding my time** in Edward Salveson Hall in Mylne’s Court. I think the Modern Brit Lit folks at Edinburgh will provide more than enough work to keep me occupied. It’s bizarre to think that by the time the World Cup is in Brazil, I’ll be 26, hopefully employed in a professional position, and officially on my own (God willing). The last World Cup saw the summer after my high school graduation. This WC came after my college graduation. Who knows what major rite-of-passage WC 2014 will mark in my life.

Can’t wait.

**A serious understatement.

Ciao!
