Now the Dust Has Settled

The past eight months have gone by like a freight train. Luckily, I appear to have reached my destination mostly intact. I set out to apply to MSt programs in the UK in Modern English Lit (with a back-up at Boston), wrote two 30-pagers on completely different subjects, poured my soul out in Personal Statements, and had many nervous break-down sessions with my commiserating Humanities buddies over many a bottle of wine. But it appears to have paid off. Next September I will be a Postgraduate student of Literature and Modernity: 1900 to the Present at the University of Edinburgh. I am still not sure how this happened. One day I was desperately writing and gathering professor recommendations and now--I'm moving to Scotland.

In the spurts of time I have not been gaping stupidly in shock, I have registered for Housing . With any luck, I'll land a spot in the 17th C building down the hill from the castle, so basically--a flat in the castle. I have started the slow, painful process of applying for loans and begun getting my mountain of papers in order for the VISA application. To relieve the intermittent panic attacks of all the paperwork and logistics, I stalk various individuals' Flickrs and Picasas to drool over photos of the glorious city and all its wonders.

Before I leave you, I want to encourage you all via Blog (I have already badgered most of you in person): COME VISIT ME! My very first purchase upon arrival will be a floor mat / air mattress. If dingy grad student housing does not appeal to you, there are plenty of lovely hostels / bed and breakfasts / hotels in the city. Please contact me for recommendations.

Ciao!
